The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

I believe our Chicken Little in Chief in the Whitehouse should be ashamed of himself.

Barbara Anderson of Citizens For Limited Taxation says it nice and neat. If this little lady can sum it all up so plainly, ALL of the Washington-knows-best types should be ashamed of themselves!

These elected turds have passed countless new laws and regulations that only WE ignorant sheep have to obey.  They purposefully exempt themselves and their friends from these awful programs.

Suddenly Silent

Haven’t heard a peep about “cronyism” from the cuckoo left wingers in 5 years now.  Yet the beat goes on as ol’ pals and fundraisers continue to get sweet Federal gigs from Obama: the King of Handouts.

I wonder if this billionairess will donate her salary, health and retirement benefits and other perks to charity?  Better yet, simply decline them.  She doesn’t need any more money.  Using the logic of the left, she should receive no compensation for whatever she might busy herself with.

Because Indoor Ski Slopes Are Never Enough

… you need a half-million dollar police Lambo to flaunt your oil riches:

As long as the US is happy buying oil from the middle east they will continue to happily roll around in the billions of dollars per week they rake in.  No drilling in the US – people in the mid-east need super cars.

Strikes me as a bit obtuse that Obama voters don’t question when “their guy” flies all around the country (wasting millions) to preach about how he can’t find a way to save a dollar and must slash the police and fire departments around the country.  AFTER dumping millions into boondoggles like Solyndra and Fisker.

HTML 5

Having been burned by being “the first” to test/learn/buy/whatever as a youngster, I decided many years ago to:

  • Wait for the price to come down
  • Learn from other’s mistakes
  • Buy the 2nd year model after the bugs are mostly cleared up
  • ETC

Microsoft has reinforced this behavior over the decades as they have released OS after OS to the market when NONE have been truly tested and debugged or patched enough to be a release candidate.

Watching technology prices plummet after the early-adopters are done adopting has also reinforced this behavior.  I’m not one that absolutely has to have the latest especially since I can save 50% in 3 months or so.  Perfectly happy buying the last model as the new ones are coming out and taking that $150 back to my savings account.

My pickup has just under 300,000 miles on it and I paid the note off 7 years ago.  Sure, the leather seats are a little tattered but the 4 wheel drive still gets me up the steep hill to the house on even the rainiest days.

So the whole point that I’m taking forever to get to is that HTML 5 has been this (rumoured) great improvement over HTML 4.01 and XHTML.  Reportedly supporting things like rich media natively without plugins, etc.  But as it is still not really, really ready for primetime, I haven’t touched it.  Read a few articles, looked forward to the new features.

NOW I’m working on a project for a client that is HTML 5 and CSS3 based and I’m (ugh) having to learn a lot of stuff just to get some basic things done.

I love learning stuff but I sure hope W3C doesn’t decide to scrap this (y’know, kinda like the XHTML thing?) in a few months and it will have been wasted time.  As much as I like learning new things (and getting paid to do it) I REALLY hate wasting time.

Fingers crossed that now, we’re really close to more universal adoption of what promises to be a really great step forward… while also keeping in mind that 7 years ago:

In 2006, the W3C indicated an interest to participate in the development of HTML5 after all, and in 2007 formed a working group chartered to work with the WHATWG on the development of the HTML5 specification. Apple, Mozilla, and Opera allowed the W3C to publish the specification under the W3C copyright, while keeping a version with the less restrictive license on the WHATWG site.

Commercial Property Idea

Wondering out loud (actually with my keyboard) if working in parallel with a realtor is an effective way to sell property.  I’m certain that it helps or at the very least doesn’t hamper the agent’s efforts to do, say, something like this I20 frontage commercial property site.  I have started to see more people put up a website about some property they are selling and I’m sure the extra awareness helps, right?

Even if your modest little site never achieves the same traffic levels of a Wikipedia, for example, that one visitor that happened to search for exactly what you are selling could be good as gold.

OK I’m decided.  It’s an effort worth pursuing…. when I finally have some “spare” time.  Whatever that is.

Never Knew They Made Them Like That

Sooo, the guy without legs that is a sprinter clearly pulled off an amazing feat.  And I don’t mean competing in the Olympics as a sprinter without legs.  I mean causing a gun to fire by “not being negligent”. It is explanations like this that cause guns to scare the crap out of anyone that is uninformed about them… like EVERYONE that works as a “journalist”.

Apparently it is a popular thing in S. Africa to carry guns around that go off for no apparent reason.  Luckily, all of my weapons have triggers and trigger guards on them.  You have to actually place your finger inside this small space to cause it to fire.

Excerpt from a Forbes.com story

“…the restaurant manager heard a loud bang, but Oscar and his friends denied anything had happened, he told the newspaper.

Boxer Kevin Lerena, who was part of the dining party, later told Beeld:

“I got a huge fright, because the bullet hit the ground just centimetres from my foot. I must emphasise that the gun belonged to one of Pistorius’s friends.

“Oscar just wanted to look at the gun, and it sort of snagged on his pants, releasing the safety catch. A shot went off. I wouldn’t call him negligent, it was just an accident. He apologised to me for days afterwards.”

Pistorius has cancelled all future track races.”

I would bet that he has quit training, too.  No point in working hard to run faster when you’ll be sitting really, really still in a small metal cage for a loooong time.

That isn’t a solution

The Obama campaign successfully fooled a large number of voters into thinking that we could tax our way back to prosperity. Clearly, very few of his constituents looked at the facts.

The central theme of Obama’s plan, as we all know, is to soak the rich.  Under his plan, raising taxes on households that earn over $250,000 annually raises less than $100 billion by all estimates.  Considering the current fiscal year (and the previous, and the one before that, etc) runs a budget deficit of over $1 TRILLION dollars, we still need 10 times the amount of spending cuts as these new tax increases would generate.

I am so sick of the Democrats and most media outlets of screaming and crying about slashing cuts that the Republicans propose. Can anyone name the year in which Federal spending did not grow as compared to the previous year? To hear the Democrats tell it, the Republicans have slashed programs to zero when in fact all that has ever been proposed is limiting the rate of growth.  Perhaps even (gasp) freezing spending for a year at current levels.

Somehow that is spun as a “massive Republican cut” by the press and the ignorant American electorate is happy to eat their spoon-fed news bites at dinner and march along like sheep.
